Tired Momma

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't been around much. My new puppy has taken all of my time and energy this weekend. It really is pretty much like having a new baby come home. The good news is that it is getting a little bit easier.

I named him Miles, and he is the sweetest little guy ever. This morning he asked to go outside so he could go potty! WOW! He is only sixteen weeks old. He learned how to sit on command for a treat too! I will post some pictures a little later. I am just trying to adjust to everything and finding myself tired and overwhelmed. So, it might take a little while for me to get back to any type of normalcy.

Does anyone have puppy stories to share? Did you find yourself overwhelmed? How long did it take you to get back to normal?

I hate to break it to you . . .but you never get back to normal!

We've had Jesse and James for a year (they were 3 1/2 when we rescued them) and they're still a handful . . . but we wouldn't trade them for anything. Now, if I could just teach them how to sleep past 3 AM. We took the boyz to training classes which really helped them and us. PetSmart has great deals and you really learn what not to do with the dogs. There are so many things we were doing wrong which was reinforcing the bad behavior. We finally taught them to sit, stay, shake, high-five, and wave bye-bye. Ah, the joys of parenthood. : )

Congrats and best of luck.

I just got an 18 year old pup that, until recently, urinated everywhere. Cindy is an amazing fox-looking akita/yorkie/mutt mix with geezer rights. She is the most gentle creature.

Dogs are cool. Enjoy Miles.

Nope...only human pups here ... good luck with the new family addition. I've heard how hard it is. I think I prefer raising babies!

Our puppy is a year old and still drives me crazy with her puppy antics! She still eats socks and anything else the kids leave on the ground. But the good news is that she's potty trained! And we just put in an electric fence in our yard and so she's stopped digging! Hang in there! It will get easier, but it will never be the same!

Ii I ever get ahold of your address, I'm going to come and steal Miles. ;P

The last time I had puppies, two of them actually, was about twenty years ago. I still remember that first day we got them, how they ran into the house to surprise me. I hardly remember how much work it took. I just remember the cute stuff.

Hang in there!

Puppies are WAY too much trouble, that's why we have cats. Only six, though, so it's no big deal....!!!! Enjoy Miles - he's beyond adorable!

Puppy story: two Christmases ago, after having had my puppy for only a month, I went to my parents house with the puppy. We were going to leave him at my parents house while we all went to church service. We figured the bathroom was the best place since if he peed, it'd be easiest to clean.

Before I go further, you should know
1) he's a black Lab
2) he HATES being alone

...When we got home, we discovered that he'd eaten through the dry wall in the bathroom.

My parents weren't happy!

Scott is right, it nevr goes back to normal. The great part is, Miles will add a whole new dimension to your life. I know its chaotic right now, but enjoy it. Laugh at the cute puppy things he does. When he chews up something, realize its only material, it can be replaced. And when he gives you unconditional love and never ending forgiveness when you're sad, angry, or too tired to play...enjoy every moment of it, cuz YOU WILL miss him when he's gone.

Wow. Your puppy sounds incredibly well-behaved. I don't have one, but my next-door-neighbor has a little terror.

No puppies, just chipmunks. Chipmunks that believe they have super powers, like the ability to fly, and to ingest anything they see. Fortunately, one chipmunk isn't quite crawling yet, so I only have to chase after three. They gnaw of furniture and books, but we're working on getting them house trained. Oldest is, but the youngest three are still working on it. ;-)

I don't think we've ever gotten back to normal. It's a lot of work. It's a good thing they're cute.

Hey, things will settle in for both you and the pup, but enjoy the newness while it lasts. :)
