I Love to Write!

Oh yes, here it is folks. I have another book in my head begging to be written, much like the first one did. It trumps the one I want to write, and it haunts me in the wee hours of the morning. My fingers are burning and my mind won’t rest until I have begun. Actually, I did begin. And guess what… the first sentence draws the reader right into the world of the main character. Oh yes, this one is quite different than the other one (experience), but it’s still in the women’s lit (with a literary twist) genre. There will be murder, romance, time travel, forbidden love and obsessive love. No vampires (or zombies), but I was somewhat inspired by them (the hot ones).

Heck, you know what? Writing is totally self-indulgent for me. I love to travel to a different world that I can create as I go. It’s like reading, but better! Do I want to publish? Yes, but for me the experience outweighs the outcome.

Have any of you ever been working on a project when another project, that you just had to do, interrupted the process? I have a novel that needs edits, a novel that I have been researching but haven’t begun, and a novel that wants to be written now, now, now. Damn muse! She must have had fun on vacation (in the Greek isles with Debra’s muse) because she came back with a vengeance!
Don’t worry, I am still beta reading. You know who you are. This book is insanely good, and I get to say that I read it before it was published! He he

I can't write anything else until I finish the books I'm currently working on writing. And I'm only on the first book which I hope to be a series. Sigh...

Sometimes, I wonder if my muse is capable of going in a direction other than the place it's at now. I've fallen so in love with my characters that I almost never want to part with them. And I can't imagine spending time on new ones. Oh, well. I guess we'll see.

And what's the picture of Edward Cullen up there for? Are you saying you read Twilight before it was published?!? I'm confused, lol.

Oh no...I put him up there because I mentioned that there will be no vampires in my new book.

OK OK OK...I wanted to look at him! Sheesh! LOL

I'm just really glad it isn't another vampire story! I do the creative writing club at my school, and I am SICK of vampire love stories!

Anyway, on topic: ABSOLUTELY. I am always jumping into the next book. It's my biggest weakness as a writer...I'm always jumping into the next story.

Beth...even despite my current infatuation with Edward Cullen, I am not writing about vampires or vampire love stories (even better). LOL!

Traci, See how great vacations are? (Even the imaginary ones?) However, I think your muse and mine owe us a REAL vacation big-time! And, yes, the Greek Isles would do just fine.

Kudos to yours for coming back so refreshed and with such gusto. Keep us in the loop as your brilliant new story unfolds.;-)

oh yes, I've had that experience where a new idea intrudes on one that I'm writing. Then I sneak around to make notes about it and feel like I'm cheating on the other project. :)

Debra...yes! I am all for the vacation! If only... *sigh* ;-)

Karen...the MC in my first novel shares the same last name as you! Her name is Kate Harrington. Oh my, perhaps this is a sign that Kate needs attention! :-)

Of course I've had a story that just had to be written interrupt a current project! (That's why I'm in the mess I'm in :) I can't even count on one hand the number of stories I've started because I just had to get the idea on paper, as well as a few...dozen...chapters just to make sure I had the idea there. I love it because I never seem to lack for stories and it doesn't hurt to have the inspiration flowing. But it is a challenge because it makes it harder for me to be committed to the current project.

Cindy...so glad there is someone else like me out there! ;-)

Yay for beta reading!

Ahem.

Um, no I don't have the problem you're talking about. Remember that One-WIP Girl post I wrote? Yeah, just one work for me. And right now that's Monarch.

Although edits for Breakaway might sneak in as I'm waiting for fantastic feedback... :D

LG -Sometimes beta-readers get carried away with the book and forget to leave feedback. Henceforth, they have to go back and reread. :-)

I thought I was a one booker too, but the ideas just keep coming. I needed a break from the one I finished, and I miss writing. It's a sickness!

I've usually got several things on the go at once. Currently it's:

- Novel
- Two short stories
- Aunt's biography

Not including the 6 books and four magazines that I'm reading.

Maybe I just get bored too easily.

I have several stories that I started and ran out of steam on, but usually once I'm sufficiently into something I like to see it through to the final draft - no matter how many other ideas are knocking around in my brain.

I don't tend to jump around either. If I get an idea for a new story, I just add it to the others. Write a small synopsis and get back to my current wip. If I started work on something new, I'd never get back to finish anything. I know myself well enough for that.

Traci said...

Martin...wow! That's a lot of reading/writing. :-)

Kate...I hear ya! I am trying to take a break from my rough draft novel so that I can approach it with clear head.

Lois...I am going to force myself! LOL

I have ideas for two novels I want to be writing now. But I have stuff I need to finish in my current work-in-progress first. It's good to have more ideas, though. Essential, in fact.

You have something else to think about while you're letting your current WIP cool before revisions, which is nice. Just don't rush through those revisions once you start in order to get to your next project!

I have a novel idea (hee hee), but I'm forcing myself to submit a few short stories before I start living my life from deadline to deadline.

Secret: It's so hard to resist the draw of my "novel idea" that I find myself working on setting, character and plot when I'm not swamped with work, school, contest entries, baby and/or short story submissions. Woot! The novel must live.

so have you read the twilight books???

Traci said...

Scott....yup...I needed a break from the WIP. :-) My fingers were itching!

Justus...funny! ;-) It is hard to resist!

Court...I am your teacher and I command complete sentences with correct grammar and spelling. ;-)

It's like that old debate about whether you read one book at a time or many...for me taht's switched over time...I used to read only one and now I have a few going always...I think the same thing is happening with writing...lots of projects at once.

Traci said...

Anita...I am currently reading two books! :-)

Yeah, I'm the same way. Right around the end of draft one for a WIP, I start brainstorming on ideas for my next project. And then I get obsessed with whatever I choose.

Sheesh. I'm like a bad high school boyfriend.

Traci said...

Carrie...I become obsessed too!I knowwww what ya mean! ;-)

That's exactly what happened to me. I put down the first project (which was actually a sequel to a book I was querying), and worked on the new idea instead. It kept calling to me, telling me my MC's story had to be told. Glad I listened to my inner voice, because that is the novel landing requests from agents. :)

I'm rewriting my first novel (from YA fantasy to YA paranormal) because like Ashley, I love my characters too much to say goodbye to them just yet.

Stina...that is WONDERFUL advice. I really believe that we should always listen to our hearts! :-)I'll keep my fingers crossed!
